"Bark!", the man said...

So my coworker came in with her new two-month old baby today. She was adorable. I picked her up, held her and rocked her in my arms. As all babies do, she found me fascinating. And, based on the reaction of my coworkers, it was like I was a talking dog all of a sudden.

I frickin' hate that. I mean, I have two kids myself, so obviously, I have held a newborn before. Why is it that people are still so surprised when a man shows any competence toward children? Is it so unusual? It's the same when I tell people that I made dinner or I helped with some craft in one of the girls classes. Are fathers so uninvolved in their kids lives that it has to be remarked upon every. single. time?
